Preparation
Pep syrup: Each 5 ml contains Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP equivalent to 4.05 mg elemental Zinc.
Pep-2 syrup: Each 5 ml contains Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP equivalent to 10 mg elemental Zinc.
Pep-20 syrup: Each 5 ml contains Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP equivalent to 20 mg elemental Zinc.
Pep-20 tablet: Each coated tablet contains Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP equivalent to 20 mg elemental Zinc.
Pep-DT: Elemental Zinc 20 mg USP as zinc sulphate monohydrate
Indication
Zinc is essential for the correction of Zinc deficiency problems like growth retardation, decreased taste and smell, alopecia, dermatitis, diarrhoea, immunological dysfunction, failure to thrive, gonadal atrophy, impaired spermatogenesis and congenital malformation.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to Zinc, abdominal pain and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Dosage & Administration
The recommended dose for Children is 2 to 2.5mg/Kg/day
Pep syrup:
Child under 10 kg: 5 to 6 teaspoonful daily in divided doses
Child over 10 kg: 5 to 6 teaspoonful 1 to 3 times daily
Pep-2 syrup:
Child under 10 kg: 1 to 2 teaspoonful daily in divided doses
Child over 10 kg: 2 teaspoonful 1 to 3 times daily
Pep-20 syrup:
Child under 10 kg: 1 teaspoonful daily once or in divided doses
Child over 10 kg: 1 teaspoonful 1 to 2 times daily
Adult & child over 30 kg: 2 teaspoonful 1 to 2 times daily
Pep-20 tablet: One tablet 1 to 3 times daily
Pep-DT: One tablet 1 to 3 times daily or as recommended by the physician.
Side Effect
Side effects of Zinc salts are abdominal pain and dyspepsia.
Precaution
Oral Zinc therapy should only be given when there is good evidence of deficiency.
Drug Interaction
Zinc reduces absorption of Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin, Moxifloxacin. Absorption of Zinc is reduced by oral Iron and vice versa.
